With increased awareness around men’s health issues, Foster’s CUB realised the time was right for a product like Pure Blonde - a low-carbohydrate beer. Aware that the market was new to the low carb concept and could be wary of any low alcohol connotations, all branding clearly states the ‘full strength’ message.

Hoyne recognised that ‘Pure’ (clean and crisp tasting, nothing artificial) and ‘Blonde’ (a golden, European-style ale) would be the main drivers within this category, so designed a brand and label with traditional beer cues and a contemporary twist. The original ‘Pure Blonde’ was clearly a well-timed innovation; it spawned a raft of followers but remains twice the size of its nearest competitor.
